TIEMH Employee Spotlight: David Lynch

As part of our new monthly series, we’ll introduce team members from the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health (TIEMH). You’ll learn more about their interests, the projects they work on at TIEMH, and more.

This month, the spotlight is on David Lynch (he/him). David completed his academic studies in psychology and research designs, graduate statistics, and anthropology, graduating from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (BA), and The University of Texas at Austin (MA).

David has decades-long research experience analyzing a wide range of data, including hospital systems, substance use disorder, Medicaid utilization and financial, behavioral health, program evaluation, neonatal care, quality metrics, demographics, education, and outcome measures. For the State of Texas, he’s worked for Texas Health and Human Services, the Texas Legislature (Legislative Budget Board), the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Department of State Health Services, and the University of Texas at Austin.

Let’s dive into David’s interview:

1) What projects do you work on?

I’m a member of the Internal Evaluation Team for the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium, a legislatively created collaborative that leverages the expertise and capacity of twelve Texas medical schools to address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system for children and adolescents.

2) What’s your official job title?

I’m a Senior Research Analyst.

3) What do you enjoy about working at TIEMH?

Impactful work and fantastic coworkers. 

4) What are you currently reading, watching, or listening to?

Reading: “The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism,” by Edward E. Baptist

Watching: RuPaul’s Drag Race

Listening to: Live At Club Mozambique, by Lonnie Smith

5) What’s your favorite way to kick off summer?

Three-step formula: breakfast tacos + Hill Country motorcycle ride + Barton Springs swim.
