Consumer-Operated Service Providers An Exploration of Organizational Function and Capacity

Peer-run and peer-involved organizations provide non-clinical, supportive services for people in recovery from a mental health challenge or substance use disorder (or peers) and usually offer peers an opportunity to be directly involved in organizational function, management, or governance.

Consumer-Operated Service Providers (COSPs) are run and governed by peers, typically providing peer support and other non-clinical services, assistance with accessing resources, drop-in opportunities for socialization, and opportunities to participate in local and state advocacy efforts for individuals recovering from mental health challenges.
